Tennis Tryouts

“Zoom!” A green, fuzzy tennis ball is flying at you! Grab your racket, because tennis season is upon us...and so are tryouts

Every year in early March, PLHS host their yearly spring tennis tryouts; Welcoming Monarchs grades 9 through 4.

For many, this is their first year of tennis.

“I played some tennis when I was younger, but I haven’t played for real before,” freshman Teah Showell said.

For the most part, people that play sports at PLHS have been playing for a while. For others, they’re looking for a breath of fresh air.

“I tried out to stay in shape for softball and to try something new.” freshman Mckenna Schneider said.

Tennis tryouts weren’t always easy, but students are excited for what’s to come.

“Tryouts were stressful at first, but later became fun and enjoyable.” Schneider said, “There is quite a bit of running but not any worse than softball season conditioning.”

Going out for a new sport, club, or activity of course warrants nervousness, also.

“I wasn’t sure to try out or not because there were a lot of new and really good girls trying out for tennis already, so I was nervous.” Showell said.

Some students have never even played tennis in their life; but the sport just grows on you.

“My favorite thing about tennis is probably the fact that it was so similar to softball and easy to get the hang of.” Schneider said.

Regardless of their athletic skill, the girls are excited to give it their best shot and enjoy it.

“Before I tried out, I thought I wasn’t going to catch on and that it was going to be completely different from softball,” Schneider said. “But then, once I got there it got to be pretty fun!”

Moral of the story, if you’re considering trying out for something you’ve never done before, just go for it: you never know how things will turn out.
