OPINION: Snapchat Streaks
Students of PLHS discuss the point of Snapchat streaks.
What’s the point of snapchat streaks? By the end of the day, isn’t it just a number? Well for some people, Snapchat streaks mean a lot more.
A Snapchat streak is when you send direct Snapchats back and forth with a friend over a period of time while the app keeps count of the days. Snapchat is very popular among young people, and streaks are an efficient way of communication among fellow students.
For me and many other students, Snapchat is a form of entertainment, and having streaks is something that keeps us busy. When you have a streak with someone, you must constantly be sending them pictures in order to keep your number and have it increase.
My highest streak is 1,144 with my sister and keeps going up as the days go on. Right now, I have about 100 streaks; it makes me feel like I have a better connection with my friends, my classmates and even just with people my age around the area.
With all the streaks I have, it takes a lot of time to Snapchat every single one of them, but I always find time to send them out. When it comes to sending out my streaks, I put effort into my pictures. I’m not one of those people who takes a picture and says streaks; in fact, I don’t even say streaks at all.
When you have so many streaks like me, it can be hard to keep track of them. If you’re constantly snapping someone, you’ll eventually get in the habit of doing it every day, sometimes even around the same time.
Sometimes Snapchatting can be an addiction. Teens today are repeatedly on Snapchat sending picture back and forth with the people on their streak list, whether they are looking for something to do, trying to hit people up or just trying to increase their snap score. Teens are constantly looking for something to do on their phones and Snapchat will always bring a form of entertainment.
Snapchat in general will always be a part of a teen’s life mostly because it provides great entertainment. People will always post on their snap stories and just Snapchat pictures back and forth with their friends, causing an addiction to the app.
