Super Bowl LIV Preview

In-depth look at this years Super Bowl.

After what has been an insane year, the NFL’s one hundredth season will come to a close with Super Bowl LIV (54). This years Super Bowl is a showdown between the second-seeded Kansas City Chiefs out of the AFC and the first-seeded San Francisco 49ers out of the NFC.

The Kansas City Chiefs ended the Tennessee Titans magical playoff run with a 35-24 win led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who threw for three touchdowns and rushed for one. The 49ers demolished the Green Bay Packers 37-20 in a game where quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo only had to throw the ball eight times.

The Niners were led by running back Raheem Mostert, who filled in for an injured Tevin Coleman and rushed for a 49ers postseason record 220 yards along with four touchdowns. But don’t expect the 49ers to have the same sort of performance on the ground as the Chiefs held Titans running back Derrick Henry to just 69 yards rushing after nearly running for 200 yards in his two previous games.

This will be a battle of the tight ends as both teams have arguably the two best tight ends in the league in Travis Kelce and George Kittle. While Kelce is an amazing pass catcher, Kittle has proven himself as one of the best run blockers in the NFL.

Both teams need their offensive lines to step up with the amount of pass rush there will be in this game. The Niners have a very talented defensive line, ranging from potential defensive rookie of the year Nick Bosa to pro bowlers Dee Ford and DeForest Buckner. While the Chiefs d-line has a pro bowl duo themselves in Frank Clark and Chris Jones.

The 49ers will be wearing their white uniforms in this game which is important to note on as teams wearing white have won 13 out of the last 15 super bowls. However, I don’t believe in superstitions and expect the Chiefs to win a high scoring game 45-38 for their first Super Bowl in 50 years.

Super Bowl LIV is set to be an instant classic where two of the most talented teams in the league are ready to fight for the Lombardi Trophy. Whether you’re a Chiefs fan, a 49ers fan, or a football fan in general, you should be in for one exciting game.
