Spiderman: Critics Stay Home
“Spiderman: No Way Home” gave people an experience to talk about that critics tend to ignore.
Spoiler Warning for “Spiderman: No Way Home”
“Andrew Garfield’s Spiderman is the worst.” “Tom Holland is decent at playing both Peter Parker and the hero, Spiderman.” “Tobey Maguire is the original Spiderman, that’s why he’s the best.”
Andrew Garfield, Tobey Maguire, and Tom Holland are always part of the debate of which Spiderman is the best; however, critics will ignore this battle for the answer of “Who is the best Spiderman?” to refute the importance of comic-book movies to the cinemas.
“Spiderman: No Way Home,” arguably one of the best comic-book movies to ever exist, has taken over the internet, especially before it was released to the public, with fan-theories of Maguire and Garfield being in the film with little-to-no information about the movie. Since the movie has been released, a little over a month ago, it has become the sixth highest grossing film of all time, making $1.7 billion dollars at the box office.
Though this movie has taken over the world, critics seem to ignore the hype. Some critics have said that “No Way Home” was one of the best movies of 2021; However, others disagree, saying that the movie was just for nostalgic entertainment, plots were an unsatisfying mess, and that the storyline with Maguire and Garfield included was just a money-making scheme.
Yes, “No Way Home” was nostalgic, but this marked a new beginning for Peter Parker by looking back on some of the other Spiderman movies in order to develop his character and give him a new story.. With a movie that easily managed to exceed the public’s extremely high expectations, it made the hype all worth it in the end. The fact that “No Way Home” didn’t exceed some critic’s expectations is shocking.
Critics tend to dislike superhero movies because they don’t fit their movie preferences, which is usually a classic, indie, film-festival movie. What they have failed to realize is that “No Way Home” brought many people out of the dark times of the pandemic and gave fans something to be excited about and share an unforgettable experience with.
In the words of “Bully” Maguire, the critics need to “stop lecturing” us about whether a comic-book movie is good or not. Comic-book movies, like “Spiderman: No Way Home” are movies that everyone can enjoy, even if the movie is garbage. It’s always nice to see your favorite comic characters come to life on the big screen.
