Something in the Shirt
So many people are wearing Nirvana tees and other band tees despite not listening to their music.
Fashion trends are constantly changing. One month bell bottoms are back in then the next it’s band tees. However, the trend of band tees has been around for quite some time now. Wherever I go, I always see several people wearing band tees, the majority of them being Nirvana tees.
The ‘Nirvana Epidemic’ has resulted in a large amount of the younger population to wear different Nirvana shirts. There’s the basic smiley Nirvana shirt and then there’s the more intricate ones using the ‘In Utero’ album cover and pictures of the band’s members.
There are two main reasons as to why people are wearing Nirvana shirts. The first reason is that the band is iconic, most people know their song ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ which got one billion views in 2019 on YouTube. The second reason is that some people feel pressured into following the current trends so that they don’t stand out.
Although the band was sadly broken apart in 1994, they still remain relevant to this day. Whether it’s a teen going through their grunge phase or an older person reliving the time when Nirvana was at their all time high, Nirvana will remain an important part of music history.
Despite Nirvana and its music being so relevant, many people that wear their shirts haven’t listened to anything other than ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’. Most people who wear band tees do it to follow the trend, instead of wearing it because they actually like the band and its music.
Nirvana is one of the best grunge bands of all time, so it’s not surprising that people are wearing their shirts. We should be glad that it’s Nirvana and not some terrible band’s shirts that are trending. Like all trends this one will eventually die out and a new trend will pop up and unfortunately slither its way into everyone’s lives.
