Five-feet-eight, blonde hair, fresh blood. Freshman Aubree Fettin takes a varsity spot as the volleyball team’s new outside hitter.
Fettin came into PLHS with nothing to lose. She made her strengths stand out to both her new coaches and teammates.
“She’s a very aggressive hitter,” junior Karlyn Francis said. “She really steps into her role as an outside on the team.”
Francis isn’t only a teammate, but a friend to Fettin. The new freshman quickly got used to the girls she shares a court with, despite her age.
“I honestly forget she’s a freshman,” Francis said. “She makes connections with everyone.”
As a freshman going into a varsity sport, most would assume an awkward or uncomfortable team dynamic. Fortunately, the monarch volleyball team was full of friendly girls.
“It wasn’t awkward at all with me being the only freshman,” Fettin said. “Everyone is here for me no matter what.”
Being the only freshman on the team, eyes are always on Fettin. She’s aware that the stakes are high and she may have some disadvantages.
“My goal is definitely to stand out as the only freshman and obviously make it far in state for sure,” Fettin said.
Overall, Fettin is a great asset to the Monarch volleyball team. Her teammates, coaches and supporters look forward to watching her grow throughout the next four years.
