First impressions can be intimidating. For most, you want to appear polite, sophisticated and put together; however, for two seniors at PLHS their whole goal is to come off as obnoxiously loud, prideful and to have no mercy. Tanner Apgar and Brayden Koenig were recently appointed as Papio’s newest student section leaders for the 2023-2024 school year.
It is a new experience to lead the section during games, but the leaders have learned from leaders in the past and feel fairly confident in their ability to get people hype.
“I was set apart from other students because I went to a bunch of games as an underclassman,”Apgar said. “I’ve looked forward to this since my sophomore year and it means a lot to me that I get to lead.”
Good leaders do not just need school spirit, but also dedication. Apgar and Koening spend a lot of time planning and coordinating.
“To get people involved I make posts about upcoming events on Twitter”, Apgar said.
While Apgar informs people of events on social media, his partner gets the crowd hype.
“I get people involved and just get them amped up to cheer for the best team in Papio,” Koenig said.
Although the job is mostly fun and games, there can be some difficulties trying to organize the whole section.
“Sometimes when it gets chaotic, it’s hard to decide who I should listen to when everyone’s throwing out their ideas,” Apgar said.
“It can be difficult sometimes to get people involved and also to come up with all the themes,” Koenig said.
Despite the chaos and huge responsibilities, these two are excited to represent the school as a whole and ultimately grow Monarch spirit in the student body.
