With the softball season underway, the team is stacked with seniors this season. More than half the seniors were on varsity as freshmen making it their fourth year on the team, and the seven seniors are looking to win the state championship for the 17 time in school history.
Although they have been playing together for awhile, there have been some changes.
“The biggest change for me is how many unexpected people are stepping into leadership roles,” senior Kloey Hamblen said.
Hamblen has been on varsity since freshman year and has been through all the ups and downs. Seniors are where the leadership comes from, and with that can come pressure to perform.
“I don’t feel pressure, if anything I feel less pressure,” Hamblen said.
However her senior teammate Presley Ivener had a different view on being a senior and feeling the pressure.
“Yes 100 percent I feel like being a senior you have a lot more responsibility and the team looks up to you which is huge,” Ivener said.
Although Hamblen and Ivener have different views they both believe that head coach Todd Peterson is pushing them harder because they are seniors and the leaders of the team.
Many people create goals throughout their lives and they change with time.
“My goal this season is to ball out and just have fun while enjoying my last high school season,” Hamblen said.
While Hamblen is looking forward to enjoying her senior season, Ivener’s goal is a little different.
“I want to give it my all everyday because it’s my last high school season and my biggest goal is to win state,” Ivener said.
Both Hamblen and Ivener have big goals which is expected especially since both of them are hoping to go play college ball. While Hamblen is uncommitted but hoping to continue her career at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, Ivener doesn’t know where she is going to play yet.
Hamblen and Ivener have both played many games for varsity during their high school career and both of them have a favorite game they were a part of.
“Sophomore year when we played Marian in metros; It was a lot of fun because we weren’t supposed to beat them even though we did and the team was connecting and having fun,” Hamblen said.
Ivener’s favorite game was also her sophomore year at the beginning of the season when they beat Millard North 17-11.
Every senior class leaves behind a legacy; many are good, some may not be as good but both Ivener and Hamblen have hopes for a great legacy to leave for their teammates and senior class. They want to be known as hard working and being resilient and ready to face any battle thrown at them.
