Excitement is high, tensions are higher. One of the most important games of the season is right around the corner for the Monarch varsity football team, and all the emotions are flooding in.
This Friday, the Monarchs will take on their rivals, the Papio South Titans. The past couple of years have been up and down, as the teams have switched up the winning pattern. Last year the Titans defeated the Monarchs in a devastating loss, 29-3.
However, it’s comeback season for the Monarch football team. The team is determined, and fully prepared to put their hearts on the field for the upcoming game.
The question is, are these players ready for the pressures of taking on their biggest rivals?
This is no easy task, as these players are faced with not only their own emotions, but the emotions of their teammates, coaches, and the students at PLHS.
All eyes are on these players going into the end of the week, meaning expectations are high.
“We need to stick together as a team,” senior running back Jordan Barrientos said. “I think if we work hard we can come out on top.”
One of the most important things about being on a team is sticking together. When teams stick together and work hard they are destined for a good outcome.
When people are under so much pressure it can be hard to keep a positive outlook, but these boys are working hard to not crumble under the stress.
“I’m nervous, but I’m also really excited,” sophomore quarterback Cameron Leggett said, “I’m trying to get the most out of our practices, I’m locked in.”
Nervousness and excitement are a perfect mix to create determination, which is exactly what Leggett and Barrientos have. They are ready and willing to put in as much effort individually, and do as much as they can do to contribute to the team.
These players are working together to get ready for this big game, even under all the pressures, they have positive attitudes.
With commitment, good teamwork, and positive attitudes the monarch football team looks to be on a superior path for a season of success.
