When freshmen walk in the doors of a high school for the first time, they are usually nervous and don’t know what to expect. For the freshmen football team though, they were excited to start high school because that meant the start of their season.
The team has started out 1-4 and hasn’t had a great start to the season so far. Despite the slow start, the team stays confident.
“We’ve definitely had some ups and downs this season, but no one on our team has given up and they are still one hundred percent committed,” freshman lineman Peyton Francis said.
Although the team was ready for the upcoming season, they had to face the challenge of stepping up from middle school football to high school football. They welcomed the challenge and didn’t shy away from it.
“The summer practices and the team camp was a completely different experience than what I was used to,” Francis said. “I also think that the brotherhood between everyone is a lot stronger just from being with each other so much more than previous years.”
Freshman year is a year that teaches many people a lot about themselves and life in general. For the football players, they learn more about their sport as well as themselves.
“I have also learned a lot on how to be a leader on and off the field whether it’s on the team or in the classroom,” Francis said.
After one’s freshman season, they have two options, the first is to walk away. But the second is to stick with it and keep going to pursue their dream of playing on a Friday night under the lights and beyond.
“My goals have always been to play football at the next level, and it hasn’t changed after this year. I know that our coaches will put me in the best position to achieve my goals, but also what is best for the team,” Francis said. “So we can have as much success as possible on the field.”
These freshmen have had a rough start to the season, but despite the slow start, they remain focused and dedicated, not wanting to give up on any of their teammates. Their dedication and heart show that the future of Monarch football is looking bright.
