Bright and shiny, retro yet futuristic; there’s only one thing that fits all of those characteristics, and that is neon.
Student Council has been working hard to spread neon colors all across the school in preparation for our Neon Lights-themed homecoming.
“Decorating is always fun because Student Council members get together and spend three hours decorating and bonding,” senior Student Council president Dayanara Lopez Torres said. “We try to make homecoming a fun event for all the students.”
In order to decorate the whole school with the most efficiency possible, the Council has developed a system that separates the school into sections.
“In terms of Student Council, in general we work as a whole, but we typically split up the whole Student Council into little committees [for homecoming],” junior Nova Degbe said. “So, for the dance, the way we organized it is that when it comes to all of us decorating, we have different areas of the school.”
Despite the effort that goes into decorating, seeing the final product makes it all worth it for Degbe.
“I’m just really excited to see how the decorations go,” Degbe said. “That’s honestly my favorite part, I always want to see what the venue looks like.”
Homecoming is the biggest and most time-consuming event of the year for Student Council, but the results are very satisfying for Council members who attend the dance.
“Being able to see all the work we put into preparing for this day and looking at the outcome is very exciting and satisfying,” Lopez Torres said.
Excitement is high for homecoming under the neon lights, and Student Council members are looking forward to seeing the fruits of their labor. All in all, it will certainly be a colorful night.
