The Papillion-La Vista High School girls volleyball team fell to the Papillion-La Vista South Titans on Tuesday, Oct. 10. Despite being unable to defeat the Titans this season, the girls continue to focus on their skills and work alongside their coach Priscilla Petersen, to prepare for the upcoming Metro Championships, and subsequently the NSAA State Volleyball Championships.
The team had a close call in the first set, but ultimately ended up losing to the Titans with the final score for the set being 25-23. Senior Morgan Glaser scored the team multiple points throughout the match, and continues to prove her importance to the team.
“It does fuel the fire, I think we still played a good game and we played lights out every point,” Glaser said. “We definitely took steps forward in this game.”
The second set turned out to be another close one for the Monarchs, ending with the score being 25-23, yet again. The Titan senior outside hitter Lauren Medeck ended the second set with a kill against the Monarchs, sending the game to an upsetting third set, which closed out the rivalry game with the score of 25-20.
From here, the team’s priorities still lie with performing their best, and more specifically focusing on the mental challenges that come with the competitive nature of this cross town rivalry.
“Drills in practice help us prepare, and we also focus on the mental aspect as well,” Petersen said. “Mentally preparing, making sure we are doing the right things on and off the court to prepare our bodies, so that we are ready for these big, long matches.”
The Monarchs plan to continue their season by fighting their way through tough matches, and hope to work towards a successful next couple of weeks.
