Basketball, Wrestling, and Football. What do all of these sports have in common? They are highly popular in PLHS. Not only are they popular but they have off-season workouts supported by school staff.
One of the more recognizable off-season workouts is pre-season basketball particularly. Even more students have decided to take this workout than before, even some 8th grade students from LVMS.
“I couldn’t do pre-season last year, but I decided to join this year and I didn’t expect as many people to be doing it this year, especially students from another school,” Sophomore Noah Coe said.
Although many students started pre-season this year many dropped out of it, and others skip days.
“I’ve noticed through the few weeks that pre-season basketball has been going there has been less people coming every day we workout,” Junior Dallas Hoffman said.
All of these students opting out of this off-season program isn’t just a coincidence as many people didn’t expect how hard it would be.
“I joined pre-season basketball without expecting much out of it besides a lot of basketball training. The practice is also fun but it’s at 6:45 in the morning so I have to wake up a lot earlier than I usually do,” Coe said.
It’s not just the basketball practice that has people trying to skip days and even dropping out of it, there’s also weight lifting that they have to worry about.
“I only thought about the basketball practice in the morning but we are doing weightlifting too, and a lot more than basketball,” Coe said. “Like other people I also thought about skipping days mostly because of the conditioning running we do early in the morning some days.”
Not only are the students doing this program tired from waking up early in the morning every other day, but they are also training their hardest in the weight room.
