Driving to school is the one thing that many students look forward to, it symbolizes independence and responsibility. You have the responsibility to drive well and of course park well too.
PLHS has always had parking passes; however, this year they have been pushed more, which has brought up the question of why we even have them.
To park in the student parking, you need to purchase a forty-dollar parking pass to park at the school for the year. If you don’t, and you park in the lot anyways you will be hit with a fine. Yes, the school that you go to is going to fine you if you don’t buy their passes.
“I understand their purpose, but we go to this school so I don’t understand why they are so much,” junior Lucy Mohr said. “They haven’t even told us what the money is going towards.”
I understand that having some sort of indicator as to whether or not the cars parked are a student’s car and not a stranger’s. There are better ways to go about this though, for example, make it mandatory for students to fill out forms stating the plates, make, and model of the car. Or at least lower the price.
Having the choice between either spending forty-dollars or getting fined has, and will continue to force students to park in the neighborhoods around which is a problem in itself.
If students have to go to school and spend several hours at school, then we should at least be able to park here for free. The school needs to at least lower the price so that it is more affordable for students.
