For senior Jordan Barrientos, his football season was cut short after tearing his ACL, meniscus, and MCL. Even though it is his final football season playing for the Monarchs, Barrientos has remained positive and encouraging to all of his teammates. The injury occurred to Barrientos during the Varsity football game against Lincoln Southwest on September 15th.
“I was on the Punt Team, going to run down the field, and my leg kind of just gave out,” Barrientos said. “I got hit which made it worse, and I stayed on the ground a while.”
After a major injury like Barrientos’s, the recovery and rehab the athlete goes through is a key part of how the rest of their season will go.
“I am in Pre-Rehab right now to prepare for my surgery coming up,” Barrientos said.
In his Pre-Rehab, Barrientos works on the tendons in his knees to make them stronger for his surgery. He also works on other things like his hamstrings, to try to gain back his strength.
Like recovery, another important thing for injured athletes is the support they gain from their teammates and coaches. For Barrientos, his teammates have impacted him and helped him through his injury.
“We are all still really close and they are all there for me,” Barrientos said.
Even though he isn’t out on the field, Barrientos still supports his teammates at the games. Barrientos gets hype on the sidelines and makes sure to stay loud for all of his team.
“It is really sad that it is my senior season and we are having a good season, so I would like to play with them,” said Barrientos.
Though it may be sad, Barrientos still pushes forward with his team, continuing to support them no matter what.
