One of the largest fan bases that has increased and grown over the decade is quite an odd one. Containing horrifying jump scares and its own extensive storyline, ScottGames’ “Five Nights at Freddy’s” has kept its players unable to sleep since its release in August 2014.
“Five Nights at Freddy’s,” or FNAF in short, has maintained its popularity over the years since the debut of the first game. In recent years, however, FNAF fans have been waiting for something more.
Throughout time, the FNAF franchise has expanded with the launch of its games, but its rumored film has kept fans on their toes for years. Luckily, the wait is over.
Earlier this year, word about the game-based movie caught fire nationwide. The trailer amassed millions of views in less than a day. FNAF fans have received what they were waiting for: a full-length film produced by Blumhouse Productions. The movie debuted in theaters on Oct. 27, 2023 and streamed on Peacock.
Blumhouse has been popular on the big screen recently, being known for the spine-chilling films “M3GAN” and “The Black Phone.” Fans hope that they will land another success with “Five Nights at Freddy’s.”
Similar to the game, the movie follows the story of a freshly-hired security guard at a run-down, abandoned pizzeria. He discovers the truth about the history of this pizzeria and faces danger along the way. According to the film’s cast members, the movie is the epitome of horrifying, and to no surprise, packed with jumpscares. Fans have speculated that the movie follows FNAF Games 1-4.
The success of Blumhouse Productions’ previous movies has sparked excitement in FNAF fans as they await how impactful the film will be on the fanbase. Although, some projects inspired by FNAF were not executed well, in the fans’ opinions.
The controversial release of the film “Willy’s Wonderland” back in 2021 was rather embarrassing, especially for its star Nicolas Cage. According to IMDb, the movie received a whopping 5.5 out of 10 stars from viewers. This motion picture conveys the story of a drifter who agrees to take on the job of a janitor at an abandoned family center called “Willy’s Wonderland” to receive compensation for his broken-down car. As he progresses through the center, he fights off frightening animatronics for a chance at survival. Does that sound familiar?
FNAF fans did not appreciate that “Willy’s Wonderland” seemed like a carbon copy of their favorite game. However, this film did not take down the strong spirits of the fandom. The fans still remain excited for the FNAF movie that they have waited quite some time for.
Despite good news surrounding the FNAF film, some fans don’t have the highest expectations for it. One of the particular reasons for this attitude is the movie’s rating. It has been confirmed that the movie will be rated PG-13, which upsets some fans because the extreme violence contained in the games will seemingly be kept to a minimum in the movie. Also, it seems more than likely that the dark lore contained in the games will not be as detailed as it should be in the movie.
Whether it’s an exemplary and highly appreciated feature film or a disappointment, the “Five Nights at Freddy’s” movie will be one to remember.
