It is 2017. You are hopping on Fortnite with your best friends after a long day of school and life is simple.
Fortnite is a video game where you can collaborate with friends to battle other characters and become the last ones standing. The game has gone through drastic changes throughout the years. Fortnite releases new seasons every few months, and with those come new updates that completely transform the game into something new. The island that you battle on comes with new locations, new weapons and new tactics. On Nov. 3 minds were blown as the OG Fortnite Made a comeback; the familiarity was back and life was made simple, yet again.
“It’s the best thing that’s happened to the game in a long time,” Junior Lane Lafond said. “The OG map held so many memories for so many.”
As all trends eventually do, Fortnite has been dying out the last few years, but this new jolt for the game brought back a lot of attention.
“The map coming back brings back a lot of nostalgia,” Junior Michael Whitney said.
This weekend was the biggest day for Fortnite, with over 44 million people playing to reminisce on the old map. To some, Fortnite is more than just a video game, it is a way to connect with friends far and near.
“The concept of the game itself is cool, but the best part is easily the social aspect,” Lafond said. “During 2018-2020 there was never a time I wasn’t playing with friends, the times I’ve had and memories I’ve made are irreplaceable.”
If you know anything about Fortnite, you know the new seasons they have released have gotten somewhat out of hand. With the old map back, the next four weeks can be spent playing a simple game with a simple objective.
“I love to griddy on the noobs,” Junior Tyler Alba said. “Fortnite means I get to grind with the boys in tilted [towers] again.”
After years of begging for the OG map back, fans finally got their wish. Now, you can sit back, relax, drop into tilted, throw a chug jug back and enjoy Fortnite.
