1989 was an unforgettable year due to the making of a new pop star, thanks to Taylor Swift’s fifth studio album ‘1989’, 2014 was one to remember as well.
Looking back at pop music, iconic artists come to mind from past generations. Madonna was the 80s queen of pop as was Brintey Spears being the 2000s queen of pop. The big question comes to mind: Who is our generation’s queen of pop? One popular answer floods people’s minds; Taylor Swift.
Swift’s fifth studio album gave her a fresh start in the music industry, fiercely entering the scene as a popstar. The new rerecording of ‘1989’ comes with personal vault tracks that resonated with Swift nine years ago when she released the 2015 album of the year.
“I love the new album because it shows her personal and career growth throughout the years.” Senior Morgan Glaser said. ”The album ‘1989’ was a cultural reset for pop music and it was a huge hit when it first came out. The fact I can reconnect with my childhood nine years later makes me happy.”
Five new vault tracks have been released in addition to Swift’s rerecording. Fans have already started picking their favorites, which resonate with their personal lives.
“It’s hard to pick a favorite, but ‘Is it Over Now?’ stands out to me.” Glaser said. “It’s personal to a lot of teenage girls. I also enjoy it because it’s written about Harry Styles, similar to ‘Style’, so it shows deeper insight into their relationship.”
Swift’s rerecording isn’t just about connecting back to old times and producing more hits. It’s about Swift gaining her power and freedom back.
“Most importantly, the album is about her getting her power back.” Glaser said. “After issues with her old manager having control over her own music, she’s essentially taking back what’s hers. It is honestly inspiring for other women to stand up for themselves and to not give up.”
For those wondering if the Taylor Swift era is over, asking “Is it over now”? Don’t be fooled, Swift never goes out of style.
