Registration is making its yearly appearance, and students are pressured to make countless decisions. Selecting next year’s classes can create stress and confusion over what courses are best for them. When completing a schedule, students must consider what will benefit their future the most, but also what they find interesting. Picking the right classes is difficult, but with the help of experienced students, choosing the perfect courses will become easier.
Junior Addie Bigelow and Senior Vincent Timberlake are two students experienced with class registration. After picking their classes throughout the years, they have all the tips and tricks to know what is the best way to sign up for classes.
When registering begins, Timberlake’s first step is to always look towards his teachers for assistance. Asking for their input and recommendations, he feels that is one of the best ways to choose his future classes.
“Your teachers, especially from core classes, will have a good plan on what you should do,” Timberlake said. “They are always willing to help you choose the right classes for your education.”
When considering college, Bigelow recommends taking AP and honors courses. They help prepare for college and aim for a higher GPA.
“Although AP and honors classes are more difficult and may take some extra effort, they will provide a lot of benefit for your future,” Bigelow said. “In AP’s you will probably end up getting college credit, which means you will be spending less money in college.”
Even though it is important to take challenging classes and work hard in school, it is equally as important to take a fun class every so often. This will continue to provide helpful life skills but also take your mind off the constant grind of busy work.
“One thing that I regret is only taking classes that I will be using for my major,” Timberlake said. “You can always take other fun classes, I wish I would have taken a food class, because I would still be getting some life skills while having fun.”
Every year registration is going to be stressful and confusing, but taking your time and asking questions will make the process smoother. Bigelow believes that signing up for courses is hard but important. Using helpful tips and tricks will make knowing which class is right for you easier.
“I definitely recommend taking registration seriously, this is what is going to set you up for the future,” Bigelow said. “And when it becomes hard, go to the counselors with your question and slowly work through your schedule.”
