Choir can be all fun and games until auditions come around and you start to fight with yourself if you want to bite the bullet and do it or play it safe.
Auditioning for a solo in choir might be nerve wracking but it is a great way to boost your confidence and just make yourself proud.
The tenor bass choir class recently auditioned for some solo ensembles in one of their songs and also auditioned people for concert choir, which is a higher level choir class.
“We take turns singing the part we are auditoing for in class.” Junior Hayden Anderson said.
The process for auditioning for concert choir is different though.
“They take a group out and make them sing a page of one of our songs and then they also make us do a few measures of sight singing,” Freshman Jacob Tomaszkiewicz said.
Everyone is able to take choir in highschool and some people have even done it since they were in elementary school.
“I’ve only done it this year,” Anderson said.
Jumping right into choir can be overwhelming and it’s good to have some experience.
“I’ve been doing it for 6 years,” Tomaszkiewicz said.
There are a lot of great things about choir and some not so great aspects, but at the end of a day it’s always a good time.
“My favorite part of choir would have to be my choir friends and Mrs. Ussery,” Anderson said.
The people really help make a good environment for choir class but so do other things.
“My favorite part of choir is the songs and the lyrics that come with them,” Tomaszkiewicz said.
As two boys who have either never gotten a solo or only got it once it was still different for both when auditioning in front of everyone.
“I felt really nervous getting up and singing in front of everyone,” Anderson said.
Even though he’s a freshman, Tomaszkiewicz felt differently than Anderson.
“I felt good, nervous but excited to audition,” Tomaszkiewicz Said.
After all the work in auditioning for both the solo and the upper level choir class, the boys finally reap the rewards at the end of the day.
“It feels amazing to be honest. I didn’t think I would get into either of them and I did!” Anderson said.
Tomaszkiewicz is shocked when he hears the news and doesn’t even know about it.
“Wait I did? I didn’t know she announced it yet. Wow, I got it,” Tomaszkiewicz said.
Getting up in front of a class or even just a teacher to sing by yourself is a difficult and nerve wracking process, but at the same time it’s exciting and fun. You’re able to feel so accomplished and proud of yourself afterwards and it’s a feeling that’s worth the work.
