Auditions are back in session at PLHS for the fall play hosted every year. Throughout the days auditions were held, August 26th and 27th, many students performed a prepared one-minute long monologue.
Two students who participated in the auditions were Sophomore Noah Finn and Junior Amari Zach. Along with the monologue, students must present and perform it in front of the fellow auditionees. While this may seem daunting, it’s simply a part of the auditioning process.
“It’s a good thing not to stress about,” Zach said. “Everyone’s in the same boat as you.”
Auditions and being a part of a theater production can help give students a sense of community and identity. The PLHS theater department has students from many backgrounds and activities, each different in their own way.
“It gives you a place to be yourself,” Finn said.
As well as giving students an avenue for self-expression, the play can also give those who help out and perform a new perspective on high school.
“It truly gives you a new way to experience the fullness of high school, and let you do what you want to do,” Finn said.
Each year a new play is practiced and performed by the students of the theater department, this year’s play being “A Wrinkle In Time.”
“I was like, ‘Wait, they did a movie about this,’” Zach said. “It’s my favorite movie and I got really excited.”
Theater is one of the many creative outlets of high school. There are so many different ways students can get involved, whether it be on stage or as a part of crew. PLHS theater department has a spot for everyone from all walks of life.
“Just live through theater,” Zach said.
