September 13, 2024, Suki Waterhouse’s second album “Memoir of a Sparklemuffin” was released. With 18 songs on the album that total out at nearly an hour compared to her first album “I Can’t Let Go” which had ten songs on it. Sparklemuffin overall was a very mixed bag of bad songs and some good songs.
Right away the album starts terribly with the song, “Gateway Drug” featuring lyrics that are frankly cringe-inducing. The only redeeming factor of this song is the dreamy backing music and the somewhat decent story that Waterhouse tells in the song. The story is about fixing someone and having a loving relationship.
The second song on the album, “Supersad”, vastly differs from the first. “Supersad” has good lyrics and a fast-paced beat which is very different from the rest of the songs on this album. “Supersad” is easily the best song on the album.
The only good songs on Memoir are “Supersad”, “Blackout Drunk”, “My Fun”, and “OMG,” half of which are singles that she previously released this year, and were received fairly well.
Waterhouse’s new songs that made their debut on the album in all honesty suffer from sounding like carbon copies of each other. Same beat, the same cringe lyricism, same vibes on every single song except for those stand-out four that I named.
Overall this album was a genuine downgrade in quality compared to Waterhouse’s last album. I feel as though Waterhouse gave up quality for quantity when it came to the songs on this album. There were few good songs but unfortunately, the bombardment of boring songs made this album unbearable to listen to.
If you’re looking for a new album to listen to I would highly recommend not listening to “Memoir of a Sparklemuffin” especially if you don’t want to listen to basically the same song for an hour. Do yourself a favor and skip Waterhouse’s second album, and stick to her first album.
