Varsity volleyball is filled with many talented players and there are some players who play multiple roles.
This year’s varsity team is full of players from sophomores to seniors. There’s many new faces this year considering that seven seniors left last year. This season has been very unpredictable for them because they’re\ all learning how to work together as a new team.
Sophomore Aubree Fettin has been on varsity both her freshman and sophomore year and now has a new role of being a captain. Through the ups and the downs of this team it’s been hard to stay together.
“Our record is 6-17, so not very good, and we’re not playing to our best potential, because I know our team has a lot of potential,” Fettin said.
Senior Becca Campbell didn’t play volleyball last year because she was in cross country, and she came back her senior year to be on varsity for the first time. This year Becca plays many roles and contributes to the team in many ways.
“I play a lot of different roles. Sometimes I play middle back, sometimes I play right back and sometimes I’m a bench player”. Campbell said.
This season the volleyball team has had three major injuries, outside Lilly Pillay has a back injury, middle blocker Lilian Vitera has concussions, and sophomore Logan Hickey tore her ACL, these injuries have impacted the team in a different way but the players are still contributing in many ways.
“The injured players have definitely had an impact on the team. I’m sure we’d be having a way better season with them, but they still bring energy despite their absences on the court” Campbell said.
Even through the adversity players still have very good memories through the years of their time on varsity.
“My favorite memory was probably going to state and getting that experience as a freshman because not a lot of people get that chance,” Fettin said.
Papio volleyball is full of many talented players and even though there is some adversity they are still pushing each other throughout the 2024 season.
