Having good grades is one thing but getting on the honor roll is another. Being on the honor roll requires hard work and most of the time advanced classes.
Taking one advanced class is hard enough, but Leah Wheeler is in three honors classes and one AP class in her sophomore year.
“I spend a lot of time studying and stressing about really hard classes like honors spanish and Ap world,” Wheeler said.
Studying and putting in extra effort for classes and tests can cause intense stress. This can be very overwhelming for honor roll students.
“The first thing I do when I see all the things I have to do is cry and then I put the things I have to do on a sticky note labeling the most important to least important,” Wheeler said.
Not only is stress a main factor to being on the honor roll but so is time management. Students have to make sure that they can study and get their work done while also having to do their extra activities. Sophomore Alison Davenport is in advanced honors math, two honors classes, and one AP class.
“I really utilize my study hall and advisement to get homework done and have extra time to study during the day,” Davenport said. “I also study for my classes a little bit each day so I remember it well instead of cramming before a test.”
The material in advanced classes is hard to stay on top of and can easily become overwhelming but asking questions is an amazing way to help understand troubling material.
“Usually when I pay attention well enough I understand quite well but sometimes it takes more outside thinking and asking questions to understand the material,” Wheeler said.
Being in advanced classes or on the honor roll involves an abundant amount of studying and putting in extra time for certain classes. A 70-79 percent is considered average so getting an 86-100 percent is harder to achieve then most would think.
“I think that advanced classes are challenging enough for me, Davenport said. “You definitely have to put in effort outside of school to get the grade that you want to get.
It can be extremely hard for new students as a freshman trying to get on the honor roll or a student from an average grade scale trying to move up into the honor roll.
“For incoming freshmen taking advanced classes I would say that you should only take advanced classes if you are willing to do things for the class outside of school and you are okay with homework almost everyday,” Davenport Said. “Also teachers are really helpful so make sure to ask plenty of questions.”
Being on the honor roll can cause immense amounts of stress but the outcome outways the hard work. Being on the honor roll will make it easier to find jobs, colleges, and shows great responsibility. The pressure, work, and stress is all worth it in the end.
