Loud, melodic winning voices bounce off the walls. All of the focus of the crowd is on the beaming hard smiles, captivating voices, and fluid dance movements being brought to the stage. The beautiful ensemble that combines harmonized singing with a carefully choreographed dance brings some favorite songs to life on the well thought out theme. What’s not to love?
Whenever the PLHS show choir performs, there is always a standing ovation. All three different show choir groups support each other in ways that are stronger than any other sport. This united group is very talented and supportive no matter the circumstance, but also can be very hard.
A PLHS freshman, Cambry Rochord-Hoyt, in Heart and Soul, the all girls choir group, shares her experiences this year from on the stage.
“This year was so fun,” Rochford-Hoyt said. “The intensity level from 8th grade to freshman year has been the best change i’ve experienced with show choir. It made it more exciting to do and I love a challenge.”
The boys show choir group, Monarchy, seemed to have a good season as well. Freshman Wade Guthmiller tells some insight on some hardships that he overcame with determination.
“In the beginning it was hard to get into,” Guthmiller said. “But, as the season went on and I went to more practice rehearsals, I knew I wanted to come back next year.”
First impressions are always important. When the new theme and costumes of the shows were announced, many opinions formed.
“I was not very excited at first,” Rochford-Hoyt said. “The theme of our show was “Show Choir” and I was just expecting more but it was good in the end.”
However, the theme for the boys group seemed to have a more positive impact on others.
“Our theme was Sherlock Holmes and Watson,” Guthmiller said. “It was really cool because I got to wear a trench coat and I got to be Sherlock Holmes.”
There are many ups and downs that may happen during the show choir season, but it all comes together no matter the circumstances. The hard work always makes up in the end from the support of the instructors and members of the show choir group which makes it easier and more enjoyable.
“I don’t know what I would have done if I didn’t have the support that I did,” Rochford-Hoyt said. “The people that I surrounded myself this season have helped me so much and I am grateful for them.”
Many bonds and friendships were created overtime in and out of the show choir room.
“The time after a competition is my favorite,” Guthmiller said. “Some of the guys and I hang out after and get food, it’s like a tradition.”
It is safe to say that the world of Show Choir at PLHS had a very exceptional season with many savored memories that will be held close for a long time!
