By the second semester of the school year, students here at PLHS become more and more swamped and occupied With each day getting closer to summer break. Students have a lot on their plate. With ACT tests coming up, prom, Next year registration, spring sport tryouts, and more, students have plenty to look forward to; not including the resolutions of some of our favorite school activities. Some of which are just the end of our beginning.
At PLHS, Cheer season has been coming to an end, with basketball games wrapping up and tryout season forthcoming. Residents of the 2025 cheer team have been reminiscing on their fabulous year of being part of the cheer team and all their memories that were made here at PLHS.
“The cheer team is like being part of a family, “ said Tatum Davison. “You share a bond with people that you’ll have for the rest of your high school years.”
When it comes to being part of a team, there are certain characteristics that play a big role and influence on how a team partakes in their particular school sport\ activity. Some key components leaders and coaches are looking for within their team is dedication, collaboration, and being a good role model.
“The cheer team is full of positive energy and kindness, and is a great circle to be around,” said Summer Scrugs. “ Throughout the year we have been hard working and diligent as a team”
Out of the vast amount of sports played at PLHS, nothing beats a good ol’ Monarch FNL game. With the crowd cheering, and the band playing, we all look back on the season that has our hearts.
“My favorite Football game of the year was probably the homecoming game, “said Davison. “It was really fun and festive when we got to wear the jerseys.”
Most sports require a lot of time and effort in order to accomplish goals as a team. With every practice held this year, the PLHS Monarch cheer team has no doubt put in the effort of making those goals met.
“I think overall this year we did an amazing job, and have made a lot of improvements, “Scruggs said. “Our hard work really did pay off.”
While most may view sport practices as critical and severe at times, Some wind up being the highlight of the day. With new skills being accomplished and times of laughter being spread throughout the team, you never know what a school practice could bring.
“Our most unusual practice was when we all planned on unexpectedly sprinting out of practice mid performance as a team, “Davison said.“The coaches were stunned.”
There were many accomplishments made by our 2025 Monarch cheer team; But they would’ve never made it as far as they did without the hardships they endured along the way.
“Our toughest moment was probably when a big argument spurred around the cheer team, “Scruggs said. “ It was hard to see the team not getting along.”
As the cheer season comes to an end, tryouts for 25/26 are right around the corner. Because of all the memories and lessons gained by the current cheer team, the girls have lots of advice to share with all upcoming candidates trying out for the year ahead.
“A piece of advice I would give is to always be confident and to not care what others think, “Scruggs said. “ A lesson I learned was to only worry about yourself and that it is important to work as a team.”
From the memories gained, to all the friendships made, the 2024-2025 cheer year will not be forgotten. Although it may be sad to let go of this year, there is much to look forward to within the next.
