A hot topic here at Papillion Lavista High School is our soccer team. It’s one of the biggest hits for sports that both boys and girls try out for. For Coach Joshua Reposa, this is one of his favorite times of the year. As a reserve soccer head coach, he’s preparing for a fresh new season to arrive. To start, we can understand how long Joshua Reposa has been a coach. Let’s get to know him.
“ I have been coaching in the soccer program for 11 years and the reserve coaching position for 9,” Reposa said.
Part of what makes Reposa such a strong coach is not just the years of experience, but the gratitude and positivity that he brings to the team. Continuing, we wanted to find out why. Why did Coach Reposa start with our reserve boys soccer team.
“I wanted to join our soccer program here after my first year working,” Reposa said. “Soccer is one of my biggest passions and I played it as a young kid.” A sport that brings coach joy, nothing better.
“ When they had an opening on their coach staff I asked if it was still available and they agreed and I said alright,” Reposa said.
The PLHS soccer team, welcoming Coach Posa. Almost 11 years strong, continuing to fulfill the greatness of his favorite sport as a kid. Through all the bad parts, Reposa shares his opinion on the hardest thing to do as a coach.
“The hardest part I have to say is having to cut kids,” Reposa says. “Whether its a male or female sport, it doesn’t matter. When you have to tell a kid that they can’t play the sport they love, it’s tough as a coach.”
Seeing the disappointment on students’ faces is not what he plans. To say that everything happens for a reason, Coach moves on to support his team. On the happier side, Reposa gives encouraging words on what makes our team most successful.
“Uh, 2 words. Monarch Nation. Here we are a family and the same thing goes for our sport,” Reposa says. “Our team is a family and we have some of the best athletes that truly care about each other.”
Bringing spirit with you to every practice is what Coach Reposa relies on.
“ We play ‘we’ sports, not ‘me’ sports and becoming successful was because of relying on each other,” Reposa said.
Playing as one brings more success to not just our soccer team, but for the players themselves. As we continue to raise a grade, Coach Reposa is always here to make our soccer team fun and successful, all in one.
