“Saving your tears for the pillow” is the tactic preached by Abby Lee Dance Company and former reality show “Dance Moms” star Abby Lee Miller. Although, in recent years, it has been hard for Miller to hide her own tears through her legal battles, resulting in time behind bars, as well as adversity presented by Burkitt’s lymphoma.
Miller, notorious for her inhumane coaching tactics as a dance teacher, as documented on “Dance Moms”, has a story: one that is so inspiring that it has landed her a podcast titled “Leave it on the Dance Floor.”
“Leave it on the Dance Floor” covers topics regarding Miller’s history with dance, her countless TV shows and experiences being a reality TV icon. The “Leave it on the Dance Floor” podcast has been running for almost 2 years under Hurrdat Media. This company just so happens to own a sports bar here in La Vista, Nebraska, which, as a reality TV fan rather than a sports fan, hosted one of the most memorable moments of my life.
My sisters and I grew up watching “Dance Moms,” and I still watch the show on a daily basis. We have the hidden talent of being able to memorize each routine and, of course, quote just about everything: from dance mom Kelly Hyland’s “Get your finger out of my face!” and Miller’s “JoJo, Have you learned nothing?”.
I will never forget receiving the text from her that we got tickets to visit the “Leave it on the Dance Floor: Live” event at Hurrdat Sports Bar, specifically VIP tickets to meet Abby Lee Miller herself.
I never thought I would be so excited to be at a sports bar, but my all time favorite TV star behind those closed doors was an unforgettable moment. The event began with exclusive VIP access: we lined up, and along the way was a merch table and a photo backdrop.
There she is: head to toe in bling with her fabulous big hair. My sister and I are beaming, excited to meet the woman who defined our entertainment.
After the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take pictures with Abby Lee Miller, we found a table quite close to the stage, with signed photos from Miller, we bought our $75 dollar Abby Lee Dance Company hoodies and sat ourselves down for a show.
“Leave it on the Dance Floor: Live” began with a comedic montage of all Miller’s famous quotes and moments from the show, and documented her inspirational story as well. She then asks us the question that I, of course, said yes to: “Are you ready to leave it on the dance floor?”
Miller enters the stage, and I immediately know that this live podcast showing will be all that I had hoped for. Throughout the night, she goes on to share special “Dance Moms” secrets, elaborating on how the show came to be.
The series of questions between Miller and the host leads to a few interactive activities, with on-the-spot dance challenges and Dance Moms trivia, which my sister and I had all the answers to.
Overall, the “Leave it on the Dance Floor: Live” experience captivated all of its guests and Miller surely made it a night to remember. I learned a couple things from her, especially through a concluding inspirational speech at the end of the event, preaching to us to exude confidence. Because of “Leave it on the Dance Floor: Live”, I can cross “meet a celebrity” off my bucket list.
