As of 2025, there are six branches of the United States military: Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corp, Navy, and Space Force. Each of these branches have a distinct role that correlates to their area of expertise, and whether it is protecting the land, sea, skies or space, these branches dedicate themselves to protecting the U.S.
The new Military Garden located outside the lunch room. This memorial is to honor any of the troops that serve, and have served in the U.S. military. Credit for this project can be given to Junior Caleb Russell who made this for his Eagle Scout project. Becoming an Eagle Scout is nothing short of a journey, especially since he has not reached this rank as he is a life scout in troop 461 B, Caleb has been in scouts for almost eleven years now and has had to have put in plenty of work to get to his spot.
“It’s a lot of memorization of knots, and how to maintain structure within the troop,” Russell said.
For many years that spot beside the cafeteria was home to a dryland and a sore sight to see, and this didn’t sit well with Russell.
“It hurt my eyes to look out there during lunch, because it was a bunch of dead weeds, and trash everywhere and I thought you know what, someone should clean that up,” Russell said.
Russell made this project a reality after getting permission from the school. He would be able to (with the help from his friends, other scouts, and most importantly his family) clear out the area, clean it up and start lining it with rocks.
The project, while already having a noble cause, has a deeper meaning to it. Russell’s dad, who has been retired from the army for a couple of years , has worked with one of the people who passed away and is being honored at our school.
“Up to this point he didn’t even know he was deceased so it means a lot to my dad personally,” Russel said
While Russell’s parents both helped people through their duties in the military,Caleb doesn’t plan on joining the armed forces. He plans on pursuing a career in health care as an anesthesiologist.
