Known for his unique rhythms and his take on alternative hip hop, Tyler the Creator released his newest album ‘Don’t Tap On The Glass’ following the off the charts album ‘Chromakopia’ he released last October.
This new release is more on the unique side considering his previous off the charts hits. After shouting the album name at his concert in Brooklyn, it was then confirmed on July 21, 2025, only 3 days before the drop.
The talented musician created these melodies for the sole purpose of dancing. The intention of each song was to get people together and start dancing, bobbing their heads, or tapping their feet to the beat.
“There are some songs on there that are pretty good,” sophomore Alyson Palafox said. “This new one you have to be in the mood for it.”
The announcement for his ninth studio album was a short 72 hours before the release, becoming a shock to most.
“I was kinda excited, but not a really good excited,” sophomore Iain Ginkel said. “There was no build up to it.”
With a shorter run time at 28 minutes and 30 seconds long alongside a ten song list, a few songs quickly became a hit such as ‘Sugar on My Tongue’ and the opener ‘Big Poe’ on various social media platforms.
There is no story line or any deeper meaning to any of the tracks on the set list, just meant to be on full blast moving around without a care in the world. Although with the sudden change in genre, this was unexpected.
“It’s an okay album,” Palafox said. “It was surprising, considering the take he took on his other releases.”
Nevertheless, Tyler the Creator produces his original and distinct songs for the ambition to get people together– most importantly to entertain.
“The use of his rhythmic expertise and unique vocal expressions always speaks out to people,” Ginkel said. “There just something different about him, in a good way different.”
‘Don’t Tap on the Glass’ is something out of the ordinary, something divergent. His want for free-flowing moods is shown by no plot, no story lines, or no wordy intros. Just a creative process and self expression.
