To be performance ready, it takes hard work, determination, and practice.
This year the drama department plans to perform the fall play “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” as well as the musical “Newsies” in the spring. Some of those involved are already thinking about the season yet to come, and what they plan to do with it.
Many members have already started to think about goals for the upcoming year, senior Duncan Pinkerton hopes to capture the audience during performances.
“My goal every time is to make the audience feel engaged in the performance,” Pinkerson said. “Just knowing that the audience is having just as much fun as I am up on stage.”
Auditions can be both intimidating and exciting, because where there’s a lot of talent there is a lot of competition.
“There’s a lot of people in our theater who are really good at singing, or acting,”Pinkerton said. “There’s always friendly competition, you want to see them succeed but you want to succeed yourself.”
While auditions for this year’s musical ”Newsies” aren’t until winter, preparation has already started. Sophomore Dane Bloes is attending after school sessions that will help auditioners to be ready when the time comes.
“Auditions are in December, but we already started dance practices for them, ” Bloes said.
“Every Wednesday after school our choreographer comes in and we practice.”
Once auditions do arrive, it can be tense for some, others don’t find them to be too scary. Pinkerton has adjusted to them over his time in the drama department.
“Way back in freshman year I remember being nervous, especially for musicals,” Pinkerton said. “As the years have gone on I’ve gotten more comfortable with it, last year I realised it’s not that big of a deal.”
Hard work, preparation and practice, all things the theater department is doing in order to have successful shows. From dance rehearsals to setting goals, many are starting to get ready for this season to take off.
