As schools start, the fall and winter sport season begin to cave in. With this new season of wrestling many wrestlers want to make a statement with their career this year.
As they go through their practices and training, many do this sport for a reason. They do it to gain self confidence or just to learn a new sport. For Senior Michael Furze, his “why” for this sport is different.
“My ‘why’ is my parents, who pushed me to be my best everyday and I want to represent them,” Furze said.
With each match they went through last year they learned how to be a better wrestler by making mistakes and correcting them in this preseason.
“I did alright, I didn’t finish how I wanted,” Senior Kasen Pelzer said. “I need to work on my moves to make them sharper.”
But with some of these mistakes, they were not on purpose. One of the things that the Monarch Wrestling team dealt with all year was sickness, and it was to blame for some of the matches that could have had a different outcome.
“Some setbacks that I dealt with last season were that I was sick multiple times so I’m going to try to not get sick this year,” Furze said.
With these mistakes and corrections, they have grown as a person and as a wrestler to be one % better each and every day to not fall under the pressure at state or metros.
“I have gained mentally stronger by knowing that I can push past my limits and physically stronger by going to the gym,” Furze said.
With the season coming to start up and them getting hungry each day to gain back what they could not reach last year. Clocking in the hours each day sharpening their skills, gaining strength and knowledge to make this year different and to make everyone remember their names.
