Everyday is something new, but with Empowerher’s upcoming plans it seems almost endless! Aileen Ramos and Ariana Ruiz, who are both seniors, held their first Empowerher meeting of the year just last Tuesday. Many bright souls filled the room with positive energy, along with many new faces. These girls feel nothing but excitement for what they have planned for the club this year.
To some people, the most exciting part can be the snacks! At the end of the day, people are always up for something to snack on while learning what Empowerher really is about.
“The snacks that they bring like cookies, chips, and drinks are gone in less than 5 minutes because everyone loves them,” sophomore Beverly Zavaleta said. “It’s always nice to have a snack, especially since the meetings are held after school.”
Besides the snacks, there’s always a fun activity planned for the members. Empowerher started off their first meeting by decorating positive posters to hang around the school. From the feedback given by returning members throughout the meetings and students all over PLHS- it definitely makes a positive impact when students are surrounded by encouraging words.
“I’ve seen many people post the posters on social media that we made during one of the meetings, it’s just an overall sweet message,” sophomore Brendlle Wrieth-Waymire said. “I was glad to have been able to make more of the posters again this year”.
Since Ramos and Ruiz are preparing for their journey ahead of them, it is hard to come to terms with an era coming to an end. Their high school days may almost seem over, but they have much more plans towards keeping Empowerher alive.
“Im more than proud of Arianna, Mrs. Hubert, and I for building a strong foundation for Empowerher to grow,” Ramos said. “This being our last year is more of a bittersweet moment because I know it’ll be okay”.
The main idea behind Empowerher was to raise awareness towards women positivity by bringing students of PLHS together. Empowerher has opportunities to learn, grow, help give back to the community, and meet new people through each meeting.
“For this year’s plan, I’m definitely looking forward to starting a fundraiser for a women’s shelter,” Ruiz said. “It could just be something that we can give back to the community”.
Empowerher is always looking for ways to branch out and grow. Whether that means attracting potential members through snacks, positive advertising, or fundraising, the beginning is only a new start, but the possibilities in front of Empowerher are endless.
