One team, one main goal, it all comes down to this last tournament. After countless early mornings and many late night practices the Papillon Lavista softball team only has one goal in mind and that is to bring home another state title.
For many, softball is just another game to watch. But for the softball team at PLHS, these girls work extremely hard putting in countless hours, injuries, and hard working practices just to make it to state. This year’s softball team is eager to win after just falling short in the semi-finals to Gretna high school last year.
“This year to get ready for state we have been working on cleaning up the little things in practice,” sophomore Allison Dibelka, the second baseman said. “We have been talking a lot about how we need to go into state with confidence and stick together as a team throughout the whole thing.”
Not only has this team been working hard to get ready for state but they have been working hard all season and had many laughs and memories come along the way.
“So far my favorite part of this season was when we were running and one of our seniors got bit by a dog,” the outfielder and first base sophomore Alexa Harms said. “This team has had a lot of fun this year, we all are really close to each other and very excited to compete for the title.”
The PLHS softball team has had many highlights and cherished times this season but that doesn’t cancel out the fact that there has also been a few hardships along the way.
“One thing that we have been working on all this season as a team is being more positive and uplifting to each other even when things are going wrong,” Dibelka said. “ Beating Millard North is our biggest challenge, we haven’t been able to do it this past season, so our goal is to beat them at state where it matters the most.”
This year’s team has so much chemistry and has spent so much time and worked so hard since they started their first practice this season. Winning another title would be an amazing feeling that they all hope to accomplish.
“Bringing home another state title would mean a lot,” Harms said. “We have all worked so hard for it throughout the whole summer, all of our early mornings, and all of the hard practices, it would also mean so much to send the seniors out with a bang.”
This year’s PLHS softball team has never wanted something so bad. Throughout everything that they went through this season, they have worked hard to make it to state, and they hope to compete and work as hard as they can to bring home the state title.
