Over 50 people in one place at one time, ideas flown across the room, donuts every Tuesday.
Student Council is a club abundance of dedication and memories at PLHS. Sophomores Max Souza and Kaylee Sass both have their own experiences with the club.
Over the past years, these students both have been members of the Student Council.
“I’ve been in Student Council for two years now,” Souza said. “I applied to Student Council in May of 2024, through a link from my middle school.”
Kaylee, too, has been in Student Council for years in counting.
“Two years for high school, but five years for elementary and middle school,” Sass said. “I applied in sixth grade by filling out a form and giving it to a teacher.”
When it comes to the opportunities Student Council holds, there are many things the members do for their club.
“We volunteer,” Souza said. “We set up for homecoming every year and we help around the school.”
Surrounded by people, and surrounded by memories, Kaylee and Max have their own favorites to share.
“My favorite memory from Student Council was my freshman year setting up homecoming because it was the first time,” Sass said. “It was a lot of fun.”
Likewise, Max also has good memories from homecoming morning.
“My favorite memory from Student Council is probably waking up early to help set up for homecoming,” Souza said. “I got to set up with all of my friends.”
Lessons can be learned not just from classes. People, sports, and in this case a club, can teach things that stick for life.
“Student Council has taught me responsibility and accountability,” Souza said. “People should join Student Council, it’s fun.”
Responsibility and accountability aren’t the only things members take home with them.
“It has taught me the importance of helping out in the community,” Sass said. “And everything that goes on that you don’t really notice.”
Student Council at PLHS is not just a club, it’s a place where leaders are made. People who get to be in Student Council are given an opportunity. Monarchs in this club are shaped to not just be good representatives of the school; but to be the best version of themselves.
