DECA Dodgeball

The start of the new high school year can be stressful and overwhelming. But, onenight DECA hosted a dodgeball tournament for everyone to just relax and have fun competitively.

On Monday, September 23rd, DECA hosted a dodgeball tournament for the students all grades; to raise money for MDA that added up to $282.

“It was a good experience getting to share a night of no stress and just letting things go & enjoying yourself,” sophomore Jackson Vetter said.

The opportunity of playing in the dodgeball tournament allowed students to come and enjoy their time with their friends and enjoy the activities that PLHS has to offer.

“The challenge was being the smaller and less experienced team yet still having success, and I am happy with the way it came out,” freshman Easten Kinsey said.

As some students from PLHS came into the tournament with their dodgeball experience came into a challenge while having fun going against their peers.

“We didn’t really have a team strategy but, towards the end, we decided to keep our best thrower in for substitution when we needed him,” Kinsey said.

Also, dodgeball is a game where players have-to be aware of what’s going on so that they or their teammates don’t lose players on the court otherwise if a team has zero players left, then that is counted as a loss.

Vetter stated that his team’s strategy was to play passive and throw it directly at the other team’s best thrower to knock them out to make the rest of the game much easier.

Next, the most common way people lose a dodgeball game is due to not having a plan and players on dodgeball teams have different strategies & it can cost a game for the team to lose.

Kinsey enjoyed the moment of his team winning the dodgeball tournament as underdogs. Kinsey also stated that his team was just a group of freshmen who came to come and have fun while supporting MDA.

Many players playing dodgeball like to hangout in the back for better chances of being the last one standing to win a game. Also, dodgeball players stay in the back more to have more room to catch a dodgeball easier than being up close due to the velocity of the dodgeball.

“Being able to compete with good friends surrounding you. All the positive vibes made the whole event a great time,” Vetter said.

Lastly, many students enjoyed the Monday night to come to PLHS and play dodgeball with their friends and just relax after the start of the new school year.
