Show Choir

The blinding lights, the sensation of sweat dripping down your face, all experiences individuals who take part in the show choirs at PLHS can relate to.

Like with any sport or physical activity, the more students enjoy participating in the activity the more inclined they are to continue in their participation.  If you were to ask individuals who participate in any show choir their answer as to how long they have taken part in the world of show choir, you would receive an abundance of answers.

When approached with the opportunity of auditioning and joining a show choir, some individuals feel a compulsion to continue their journey of performing.

“I’ve participated in show choir since I was in the seventh grade,” sophomore Grace Khayati said.

For others their relationship with show choir may not be a consistent one but it is significant.

“Well I participated in show choir all through junior high,” sophomore Lauren Silknitter said. “Then I took a break last year, but this year I’m in Heart and Soul.”

As with any extracurricular activity or any activity for that matter, individuals may enjoy or choose to partake in the activity for a plethora of reasons.  For some the it’s the attraction of building a team and making new friends, for others it’s the activity itself.

In many cases if an individual’s friends are a part of a team, they are more inclined to join to spend more time said friends and gain some new ones in the process.

“I auditioned for Heart and Soul because I love to dance, “ Silknitter said.  “Plus all of my friends are in show choir and it seemed fun.”

Individuals also tend to join activities that they just find overall appealing whether or not they are influenced by others.

“I like singing and dancing,” Khayati said.  “And I like performing overall.”

At their recent competition that took place at Elkhorn South, the show choir groups of PLHS did not do so hot.  Regardless of the placement they received, members of the show choirs seemed to be having fun and enjoying their time at said competition.

The groups may not have received the placement they desired at their last competition , this however does not downplay the significance of the show choirs past achievements.

“We (Free Spirit) placed 5th,” Khayati said.  “But I felt as though this year was a really big one for our group.”

The sense of satisfaction with their experience at competitions remained consistent with most members; as competitions were not only a chance to perform in front of an audience but also an opportunity to spend time with friends.

“Heart and Soul got 4th, “ Silknitter said.  “Being a part of show choir this year made me a happier person and helped me meet new friends.”

The experience shared by individuals in show choir can be summarized by “the friends you make, oh and also singing”.
