Marching Band

It’s a normal, lazy Saturday morning-for some people. Marching Band members, however, are sitting on the bus on the way to Millard.

On September 21st, the Papillion Lavista Marching Band attended a competition at Millard North Highschool. It was the first competition of the year that they participated in.

“We come to the school early in the morning on Saturdays and get on the buses,” freshman Maleah Hansen said.

For freshmen, not only was it the first competition of the year, it was their first competition they have been in.

“I was excited to see how it would all work, and to see how we would place,” Hansen said.

A lot of band students find the competitions to be the best part of marching band.

It was super fun to just hang around with everyone and bond with them,” freshman Meredith Koehler said.

The marching band students arrived and began preparing for their first performance of the day.

It was ok for our first competition, but could have been better,” Hansen said.

After they performed, they had a lot of downtime to walk around the competition.

“Walking around with friends and getting food was a lot of fun.” Hansen said.

After hours of walking around and talking with friends, the marching band students are called to perform once more– The finals.

“I think our second performance really well,” Koehler said.

Moments after the marching band performed, it started to rain. The rest of the marching bands that were supposed to perform were not able to.

“The results were a little iffy because of the rain,” Koehler said.

As some of the marching bands were not able to perform in the finals, the bands were given the score from their first performance.

“We got 6th in the prelims [the first performance].” Hansen said

The marching band has many more competitions to come this year, and improves a little every time.
