State wrestling

“Roll!” “Hold him down!” “Come on”. That is the sound of fans cheering on our state wrestlers. This past week state wrestling took place here in Omaha. Here at PLHS we had 10 state qualifiers!

Wrestling coach Chris Curry is the man in charge of the success these wrestlers have had. Mr. Curry took this over after his father had coached wrestling.

I enjoy coaching wrestling, my dad had coached wrestling,” Coach Curry said.

The boys overall had a great season. Junior Jordan Bobier is one of the state qualifiers here at PLHS.

“This season went really well, but nothing is perfect and there is always room for improvement,” Bobier said.

Coach Curry also thinks the boys had a great season and left everything they had on the mats.

“I’m very proud of the way the guys performed this season we had some cool highlights and wrestling gives the kids an opportunity to grow into young men,” Curry said.

These boys left everything on the mats this season. Blood sweat and tears.

“I think the team as a whole left everything on the mat this season not just the state qualifiers the whole team did,” Bobier said.

The process isn’t easy when determining who’s going to state and what the guys should practice for before state. “Varsity members of the team are chosen from and are to wrestle off and coaches decide based on performance not only on the mat but off the mat as well,” Curry said.

The ways the guys prepare for this huge opportunity is based off the guys and what they think needs to be worked on

“A lot of it is mentality but getting good night rest and eating good food before always helps,” Bobier said.

There are more ways to prepare than just to sleep and eat healthy.

“Visualize their matches and control what they can control,” Curry said.

Big question is, were all the guys ready for state?

“I definitely think the guys were ready we placed higher than most people thought we would,” Curry said.

Out of perspective of a state qualifier also has some good things to say about the readiness of the wrestlers.

“Yeah I think we’re all ready for this, it’s not going to be easy, but I think we can handle it,” Bobier said.

Congratulations to all of the Papillion Lavista High School wrestlers on their excellent season.
