Clay, pots, gnomes, a mess, that’s just pottery, a form of art, a form of expressing yourself through the ceramic artwork you make. Pottery is a fun class to socialize, create, and repeat, but do the students at PLHS agree?

Freshman Maddie Stigge agrees that pottery is a fun class but in every class there is a downside. Are there downsides to pottery? What are the best parts, do students regret taking this class? All these questions have answers directly from pottery students.

Pottery is a fun entertaining class and the only downside to it would be the level of difficulty on certain projects which can lead to stressing over the whole project.

“It’s a fun class kinda makes me mad sometimes though, rather entertaining though,” Stigge said.

Pottery Student Freshman Jaylin Martinez-Ramirez agrees with Stigge’s opinion on pottery class; she agrees that it’s a fun class with plenty of hardships.

“It’s fun to make but it’s kinda frustrating because you have to finish in a certain time,” Martinez-Ramirez said.

Although Pottery students Martinez-Ramirez and Stigge Agree that pottery is a fun class with frustrating times they must have dislikes about pottery. Those dislikes could be the level of difficulty in the projects, the mess that’s made, or even the whole class in general.

“Building takes forever and you have to be so careful with everything and so precise,” Stigge said.

Stigge’s dislike is completely different from Martinez-Ramirez’ dislike.

“How messy it gets,” Martinez-Ramirez said.

The next upcoming project in pottery are Slab houses the assignment is to create three textured 3D houses that must have a theme. Making one slab house is difficult but manageable, but having to make three slab houses would be a challenge. But how do Martinez-Ramirez and Stigge feel about this project?

“I think it’s going to be difficult but fun at the same time,” Martinez-Ramirez said.

Stigge also agrees that she is nervous about the project since her coil pot didn’t turn out as planned but she’s “hoping it doesn’t though”.

The difficulty of pottery can only be understood by the student, their opinions, their likes and dislikes, all have an effect on how they feel about pottery. But would they regret choosing that class? Well Stigge doesn’t regret taking pottery even if it’s difficult.

“Sometimes it makes me upset, some days when the clay won’t work the way I want it to or my project isn’t doing well but I still don’t regret taking this class since I’ve made some cool projects and good friends in this class,”Stigge said.
