Girls Golf

WHAM! The ball flies across the field and the fans cheer as the golfer gets a hole in one. If only it was that simple.

The girls golf team at PLHS go through many challenges just to hit the ball. Golf meets can last the entire day and they practice almost everyday after school. Not to mention the amount of steps it takes to get on the field and perform the best they can.

The road to golf all falls back to when the golfer started and just how they made the decision to hold the club.

“For two years,” Sophomore Morgan Neu said. “My dad told me to do it.”

Any amount of time is a good amount of practice. It doesn’t matter how much or how less they’ve golfed, they are still trying their hardest.

“I’ve been golfing since the summer,” Sophomore Allison Campbell said. “I started it because my grandpa golfed.”

On average, a golf meet lasts five to six hours outside. In the heat, fuel is needed in order to perform to the best they can.

“My go-to snack during a golf meet are fruit snacks,” Campbell said. “And a Sunny D.”

No matter how fun golf may be, there is always something else lurking in the shadows. In this case, it’s the negatives of golf. Campbell’s least favorite thing about golf has to do with her hitting the golf ball.

When you’re hitting badly,” Campbell said. “Especially if you can’t figure out what you’re doing wrong.”

Although golfers face many challenges, there are still pros that outweigh any cons they might have. Campbell feels the best when she performs well.

“When I do good at a meet,” Campbell said. “Or if I get a good shot.”

Golf is a physical activity, but that doesn’t mean all the struggles come from playing. Mindsets are still a strong thing to obtain in order to work to the full extent.

“Go in with a positive mindset,” Campbell said. “It’s a lot harder than you think but don’t get discouraged.”

While mindsets are a key thing, so is the brain. Strategizing the play is just as important.

“It’s a mental game,” Neu said. “You’re not really golfing but thinking.”

Just because it’s a dream to get a hole in one, that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. A healthy balance of the good and bad can make any dream become a reality.
