The countdown to prom has begun at PLHS, and for many juniors, it will be their first time attending one of the school’s most memorable events.
With prom being a few weeks away, many juniors have already started imagining what the night will look like. For these students attending their first prom it can bring a lot of excitement, anticipation, and nerves as they prepare to experience the big high school tradition for themselves.
“Im feeling a little nervous, but also very excited for prom,” said Paxton Wolf.
For most students, what they wear is the most important part of the night. From picking out the perfect dress or suit to choosing the best accessories and shoes to match, the outfit can make or break the prom experience.
“I have a dress that I love. It is black with a cut out on the side and a slit on the leg,” said Natalie Skaggs. “I am also wearing statement heels that are bright red with hearts on them and they wrap up my ankle.”
What makes prom the most fun, is sharing the experience with the right people. Juniors may be bringing friends, going with a date, or flying solo in order to make the most of their time for the night they will never forget.
“I am going to be going with one of my best friends Lexi Denniston,” said Wolf.
Music is the biggest part of the energy and atmosphere at prom, specifically the last song of the night being most important. Juniors are already imagining their ideal first, last song that they would choose to end the dance on a high note.
“Gagnam Style because I chose that at Homecoming and everyone was dancing to it and I thought it was funny,” said Skaggs.
Juniors who have attended homecoming are already starting to compare how prom will differ from previous school dance experiences.
“I think prom will be better than homecoming because it will be a party since I’m going,” said Wolf. “It will be an extravagant experience.”
Prom is commonly marked as a major milestone for the high school experience, with many students beginning to look forward to it years in advance.
“I think prom is like a milestone in the fact that you’re almost 17 if not already, and it’s a highlight during second semester,” said Skaggs. “It really gives you something exciting to look forward to.”
Even after the dance ends, the special night may not be over for most Juniors who are already making plans to spend more time with friends afterwards.
“I’m gonna go to after prom with my friends and we are gonna have lots of fun, or I’m gonna crash out and go to sleep in my bed,” said Wolf.
Now while prom hast happened quite yet, several Juniors are already beginning to imagine the memories they will make and look back on years from now
“ I really hope that this prom night goes really well and I remember thinking back like man I had a lot of fun,” said Skaggs. “I don’t want to regret a single thing, you know I want to remember having fun, looking good, and having the most amazing time with friends.”
For Juniors attending prom for the first time, it will be much more than just a school dance- it will be the night they hope to remember forever.
