Nothing feels better than reaching a goal that takes an extensive amount of time and effort to accomplish, especially when it is with your favorite group of people.

Last fall, varsity softball earned another state win for the Monarchs. Because of this, the team knows they need to stay determined to finish on top again.

Sophomore Jordyn Bahl believes that after last year’s victory, there is a much bigger target on the team’s back.

“We are a team that needs to have a target on us,” Bahl said. “Our goal is to really take it one day at a time, and not focus so much on the goal at the very end of the season.”

This group of girls know that to become the best you not only need to have a good work ethic, but a positive attitude.

“I feel like we are still super motivated to go out and win state again,” junior Clair Lieber said. “If anything, we are just working harder because we know it is not going to come easy.”

As any other sport, many little techniques go into playing softball, such as batting, fielding, pitching and catching. Because there are so many roles on and off the field, each position is just as important as the other.

“As a team we recognize other people’s talents, and that we need everyone to reach the goal,” Bahl said.

The team wouldn’t be so successful without some mentoring from a coach who loves the game. Head coach Todd Peterson has a crucial job of teaching the team how to play the game and to have ambition to win.

“It feels good when the coaches are pushing you because it lets you know they care and that we are all working towards the same achievement,” Lieber said.

This special group of “goofy” girls, as Bahl describes, works well together as a whole and enjoys spending time with one another.

“We are all such close friends, which makes it so fun to play together,” Lieber said. “We all just click really well.”
