The competitive aspect of golf is not just about the opponent you go against, it is about being strong enough mentally to try again and again to swing to success.
While the golf season is in fact a short season, the girls still have their fair share of ups and downs, and while they compete on a variety of courses, many golfers have their favorite or least favorite course.
“It’s a love-hate relationship, but Indian Creek is really cool because it’s one of the most different courses,” Senior Abby Crites said.
A vast number of seniors left from the previous year, multiple spots were open on the varsity team roster, leaving them ready to be taken . Freshman Addison Kloeckner was sure to hop on the opportunity to compete in every varsity competition this season and even compete in the state tournament, finishing in 14th place.
“I finished tenth in my first tournament, which was good for my first tournament. [This] was my realization moment that I actually can do this,” Kloeckner said.
Many other girls helped step up this year to help out the team and being the only senior on the golf team Crites made sure to make this year a memorable one.
“I was on this par three and I shot it all the way in the rough, all the way to the right, probably about 30 feet away from the hole. I chopped it onto the green, and it went into the hole,” Crites said.
The varsity team had a high scoring match at the Bellevue West invite, with a team score of 383. Kloeckner hit 79, Crites hit 94, Sophomores Macey Whisinnand hit 94 and Reese Neu hit 116.
“There was a lot of improvement from last season to this season,” Crites said.
The girls move onto their preseason activities and extracurricular they prepare for next year’s season not only in the physical aspect of golf, but the mental part of being able to go every day and strengthen their patience, honesty and composure on and off of the field.
“[Im going to miss] being out on the golf course,” Kloeckner said. “It’s very fun and very calming.”
