Papillion LaVista student section rallies together during the annual maroon and white scrimmage

From each game day theme, varying from maroon, whiteout, Hawaiian, USA, and jersey, the student body comes together as one. Each school has their own traditions and at PLHS there is a tradition to be outgoing even if you don’t feel comfortable. At each game, the students have pride and come together to support one another.

Each year the previous senior class picks new student section leaders to carry on the school legacy. There are normally two student section leaders who lead the crowd in chants and pick the themes for the games.

“From a students’ perspective, I really enjoy the themes our seniors pick out,” sophomore Nicole Perez said. “It puts a nice touch on each and everyone’s personality.”

Some people may think that the themes aren’t the best, while others think that they are a nice addition to showing school spirit. From freshman to seniors, the students share school spirit. Whether they are off or on the field, they all prefer to be unique in their support

“Without themes the games would be boring,” Perez said. “Instead it gets everyone in the football spirit and gives the cheerleaders something to look forward to also.”

During the games this is the time to show each and everyone’s personality. Some people are afraid to come to school wearing what they prefer by coming to the games they can express their personality and school spirit without anyone knowing the truth.

“I think it’s a great idea that our school partakes in themes,” Perez said. “Some schools do themes just for football games while others don’t do anything. It’s fun and something different that we all can look forward to.”

It also gives the younger kids a feel of what they can look for to in the next coming years. They can be excited to come to high school and not be afraid of what the real world holds.

Themes also give people who really don’t enjoy sports something to look forward to at games. Looking over at the student section will just put a smile on anyone’s face. Having student section themes ties all of our diverse groups of students into one.
